Before full strategy development can begin, Precision Philanthropy offers research on particular sectors in targeted areas of the world. This provides donors with an overview of the major actors, their philosophies, and the overall policy and funding environment. The overriding theme of this work is to find researchers and eventually partners that share the donor's interest and philosophies. Research can be generally grouped as follows:
Context of the greater political environmental where the investment will be. It details such things as the governmental policy framework and their capacities, what cultural issues will need to be traversed, and what the barriers to entry are.
Implementers and Partners research reveals who the major public and private actors are including their philosophies and capacities, the support they need, and if they are innovative. This research seeks to target those institutions whose goals are consistent with the donor's.
Investment Options outlines options for a particular donor.
Due Diligence on a specific investments, projects and institutions to determine its efficacy. This can include in-country and, in the case of more complex investments, multilateral research.
